Fresh citrus can stay juicy and sweet for weeks — if you store it the right way. With a few simple tricks, you can reduce food waste and enjoy better-tasting fruit straight from your Ecobazar basket.
Most of us bring oranges home and leave them in a warm kitchen bowl. It looks nice, but heat and direct light make the fruit dehydrate faster. To keep oranges fresh, always remove them from plastic packaging, allow them to breathe, and store them in a cool, dry area.
If you buy in bulk during our Ecobazar weekly deals, divide your fruit into two groups: a small bowl for easy snacking on the counter, and the rest in the refrigerator. Chilled oranges can stay fresh for up to three weeks while still keeping their bright color and natural sweetness.
For sliced oranges, always store them in an airtight glass or BPA-free container. Add a layer of reusable food wrap or lid to protect them from drying out. Try to consume cut fruit within 1–2 days for the best taste and vitamin C content.
You can also freeze orange segments for smoothies. Peel, remove seeds, and freeze them in a single layer first, then move to a freezer-safe bag. This way, you’ll always have ready-to-blend fruit for quick breakfasts made with Ecobazar’s fresh produce.
I always kept oranges on my kitchen counter. After trying the fridge method you suggested, they’re staying fresh much longer. Thanks, Ecobazar!
The tip about separating snack fruit and fridge fruit is so helpful. Now my kids always have oranges ready to grab after school.
I didn’t know you could freeze orange segments for smoothies. This will save me so much prep time in the mornings.
Please do more posts like this for other fruits – especially mangoes and berries from Ecobazar. I want to store everything correctly.
Great read. I’m buying the Ecobazar citrus box this weekend and will follow these storage tips.
